Low humidity
Crispy edges despite clean water point straight at dry air — Orbifolia is one of the thirstiest plants for humidity.
Diagnosis
Low humidity
What's happening
Calathea Orbifolia comes from humid Brazilian rainforest understory and expects 50% humidity or more. In dry indoor air, especially near a heating vent or air conditioner, its large thin leaves lose moisture from the edges faster than the roots can resupply, so the margins and tips brown and crisp.
How to fix it
Raise the humidity around the plant: run a small humidifier nearby, group it with other plants, or set the pot on a tray of pebbles and water (keeping the pot above the waterline). Move it away from vents, radiators, and drafts. A bathroom or kitchen with a window often suits it well. Trim the worst crispy edges with clean scissors following the leaf's shape while improved air lets new leaves emerge clean.
What fixes it
- A small room humidifier — A small humidifier running near the plant is the single most reliable fix for Orbifolia's high humidity needs.
If that doesn't fix it
This is general guidance based on common symptoms; individual plants vary.
