Normal nyctinastic movement

Leaves that lift and lower through the day on a well-watered plant are just doing what Calathea does.

Diagnosis

Normal nyctinastic movement

What's happening

Calatheas are nicknamed prayer plants because they raise their leaves at night and lower them in daylight through a daily rhythm called nyctinasty, driven by light. If the soil is evenly moist, the air is humid, and the plant looks healthy otherwise, this gentle daily movement is completely normal and a sign it's content.

How to fix it

Nothing needs fixing — keep doing what you're doing. Maintain even soil moisture with filtered water, good humidity, and bright indirect light, and enjoy the daily leaf dance. Only investigate further if the leaves stay tightly curled and limp around the clock rather than relaxing open in the evening.

This is general guidance based on common symptoms; individual plants vary.
