What's happening
Rattlesnake Plant is unusually sensitive to the fluoride, chlorine, and mineral salts found in most tap water. These build up in the leaves and burn the delicate tissue from the tips and edges inward, leaving brown margins even when humidity and watering are otherwise correct.
How to fix it
Switch to distilled water, rainwater, or tap water left to sit out uncovered for 24 hours so the chlorine evaporates. Flush the existing soil by running plenty of clean water through the pot to leach out accumulated salts, letting it drain fully. Trim damaged edges, and going forward water only with the gentler water source.
What fixes it
- A long-spout watering can — A dedicated can lets you keep distilled or sat-out water ready, so you never reach for the tap by habit.
