Normal nyctinastic movement

Leaves that fold down at night and spread open each morning are doing exactly what they should.

Diagnosis

Normal nyctinastic movement

What's happening

Purple Shamrock is famous for nyctinasty — its leaflets close like little umbrellas at dusk and reopen at dawn, and the flowers do the same. This daily folding is a healthy sign the plant is responding to light, not a problem at all. Many new owners worry the first time they see it droop closed in the evening.

How to fix it

Nothing to fix — just enjoy the show. Keep the plant in bright indirect light and on a consistent day/night cycle so the rhythm stays strong. If you want the leaves open when you're home in the evening, place it where it catches good morning light, since the cycle tracks the light it receives.

If that doesn't fix it

This is general guidance based on common symptoms; individual plants vary.
