Not enough light
Soft, limp, pale leaves and a plant that leans toward the window mean a sun-lover stuck in too little light.
Diagnosis
Not enough light
What's happening
Beaucarnea is a desert plant that wants the brightest light you can give it. In a dim corner it can't make enough energy to keep its leaves stiff and upright, so new growth comes in pale, weak, and floppy, the crown loses its fountain-like form, and the plant slowly leans toward whatever light it can find.
How to fix it
Move the plant to your brightest window — a south- or west-facing spot with several hours of direct sun is ideal, as this is one houseplant that genuinely enjoys direct sun. If your home simply doesn't get strong light, a full-spectrum grow light placed close overhead makes a real difference. Rotate the pot a quarter-turn every week or two so it grows evenly instead of leaning.
What fixes it
- A full-spectrum LED grow light — A full-spectrum grow light supplies the strong light a desert plant needs to keep its leaves stiff and upright.
If that doesn't fix it
This is general guidance based on common symptoms; individual plants vary.
